[Arc 1] The Little Secretary (1)

The Transmigrating Beauty is Poisonous

When Ye Zhen was called into Wei Shao’s office, she saw a beautiful girl standing with her head lowered. She was wearing a high-waisted tee and tight, short shorts, with her long hair flowing loose, a small waist, and long toned legs. Lively and charming, it was the sort of inexperienced sexiness of a girl on the cusp of womanhood. She had been full of confidence and pride when she arrived earlier, but now, her hair was slightly messy, her face was stained red and white, and she was biting her lips tightly, weeping pitifully.

The tall, cold man sat in front of the dark office desk. His eyes were dim while his slender fingers propped up his forehead, his face expressionless.

The girl looked at him imploringly, but the man’s expression did not loosen even a little bit.

The girl’s name was Jiang Yuan, and she became popular because of a time travel drama. After that, she took advantage of her popularity to shoot supporting roles in several television series and blockbusters. When her popularity was on fire, she was even deemed one of the Four Little Flowers[1] by netizens.

[1] Four Little Flowers [四小花旦] = slang to describe the four most well-known actresses in Mainland China

At the same time, she was signed on as a new artist by Xing Huang Entertainment. To show that they valued her, the company had sent senior agent Ou Wen to guide her.

Ye Zhen walked over and bowed, “Mr. Wei.”

Wei Shao, “Please go out, Miss Jiang.”

It was clearly a polite sentence, but Jiang Yuan trembled and the tears in her eyes could no longer be held back.

“Mr. Wei…”

Wei Shao had no expression on his face, maintaining the grace and dignity that comes from a proper upbringing.

Jiang Yuan looked down, delicate and pitiful.

Ye Zhen walked over to her, “Miss Jiang, this way please.”

No matter how courageous Jiang Yuang was, her heart couldn’t help but tremble in the face of Wei Shao’s coldness, filling with resentment. She had lowered her worth by taking the initiative to seduce him, but she couldn’t even attain one look from the man. She didn’t dare to annoy him further, but was also unwilling to leave quickly past Ye Zhen.

Ye Zhen followed one step behind, and just before she closed the door to the General Manager’s office, she saw that the man’s slightly open collar was a bit disheveled. As the General Manager of Xing Huang Entertainment, that title alone was enough to make people rush like ducks[2]. Not to mention that he was the heir to the Wei family, one of the three prominent families.

[2] rush like ducks [趋之若鹜] = idiom for people flocking together (like ducks) towards something that they all desire

Even more so, he was the man whom the original host, Ye Zhen, had loved deeply — and the target this time around.

“Ye Zhen, right?”

Having left Wei Shao’s office, Jiang Yuan had already put away her pitifulness. She slightly raised her head, smiling confidently and proudly.

Ye Zhen smiled, “Yes. What instructions does Miss Jiang have for me?”

Jiang Yuan said, “Today’s matter, I don’t want to hear it come out of anyone’s mouth.”

Ye Zhen nodded, “Of course, when it comes to Mr. Wei’s matters, we would never say anything.”

“I hope you are a smart person.” Jiang Yuan looked at Ye Zhen and snorted, then turned and left.

Ye Zhen looked on with ease. After all, this was not the first woman that was told by Wei Shao to leave his office.

She has been here for half a year, and she clearly understood how attractive this man’s capital was. It was not only his family background but also his outstanding appearance and abilities.

Unfortunately, his life was short-lived.

In the host’s memory, she and Wei Shao would die together in a car crash designed to look like an accident.

The host’s last wishes: One, to prevent Wei Shao’s death.

It would not be difficult to avoid the car crash. The difficulty came from the host not knowing who was behind the murder plot. That person must have long since made plans; if he fails once, he would inevitably try again, and it would be difficult to guard against his methods the next time around.

The Wei family was a big household, and Wei Shao’s father was even more amorous. He has three illegitimate children that have been publicly recognized by him, not to mention the children of the other branches in the Wei family. The family held immense power, and conflicts of interest were inevitable. Wei Shao, as the eldest grandson that was most favored by Elder Wei, naturally attracted hostility from many sides.

But for someone to commit an act of murder, they must have accumulated deep resentment and hatred towards Wei Shao.

After getting off work at night, Ye Zhen was called into Wei Shao’s office.

The man’s voice was crisp. “Do you have plans for the evening?”

Ye Zhen,”No.”

Wei Shao, “En.”

En?

Ye Zhen blinked.

So it turned out that Jiang Yuan was not totally unsuccessful, having at least provoked the man’s appetite.

Sure enough, at ten o’clock at night, her front door was unlocked by someone entering in the code.

Hearing the sound, Ye Zhen walked towards the front door and saw the well-dressed man stroll inside.

He had already taken off his suit jacket and tossed it aside. With three top buttons undone, it exposed sexy collarbones that had been hidden beneath his black shirt.

Ye Zhen smelled the faint fragrance of wine and saw the man lie on the sofa with his eyes closed, pressing his temples with one hand, furrowing his brows.

He had a bad stomach and felt unwell every time after drinking alcohol, yet he would stubbornly endure it and not never anything.

Ye Zhen walked to stand behind the man, leaned over slightly, and skillfully pressed his forehead with both hands to relieve his discomfort.

A moment passed.

“Mr. Wei, you can rest first for a bit. Hot water and the toiletries have already been set up for you.” Ye Zhen said, “I’ll make you a bowl of sobering soup.”

“En.”

After Ye Zhen’s soup finished cooking, the freshly showered Wei Shao came out of the bathroom. The man was tall and fit, wrapped in a white bathrobe, with a handsome face and slightly damp black hair. As he walked over, the movements of his muscles beneath his bronze skin were barely discernible. Within the coldness that drifted from him, there was a sort of indolence that seemed to easily captivate people.

Ye Zhen couldn’t help sighing. This man was truly born to be envied. No wonder he could incite so many prying eyes.

She handed Wei Shao the hangover soup. He lightly furrowed his brows but still took the cup from her hands and drank it down.

When Ye Zhen returned from putting the cup back in the kitchen, Wei Shao had already brushed his teeth again.

Ye Zhen knew that this man had a serious obsession with cleanliness.

Just like every time before sex, he would ask without fail, “Have you already showered?”

Ye Zhen nodded, “Yes.”

Then he would press into the side of her neck, inhaling her scent, and push her under him. Just like his obsessive habit with cleanliness, he was also serious and meticulous in bed. They have slept together several times, and used up countless condoms, but the location was always on the bed and in only two positions.

Although there weren’t many tricks, it didn’t mean that she could endure a man in such good shape, with textures and lines that were so seductive that made it difficult for her to walk the following day.

If this kind of man, with both capital and influence, suddenly became a playboy, she feared that he would really end up changing women like changing clothes.

However, this man was much too self-controlled. Since he had a relationship with Ye Zhen, then before the relationship ended, he would never touch any woman except Ye Zhen.

He was afraid of troublesome matters, so as long as she didn’t bring it up, the relationship wouldn’t end that easily.

When it turned three o’clock in the morning, Ye Zhen and Wei Shao each took a bath and went to sleep—Wei Shao in the guest room.

Although it should have been fine, no matter how late they tossed around, they would eventually sleep in different beds.

Ye Zhen didn’t care and immediately fell asleep after hitting the bed.

When she woke up the next day, she nearly couldn’t get up. With a sore waist, she struggled to get out of bed. When she opened the bedroom door, she saw Wei Shao looping a tie around his neck in the living room.

The man had his back to her. With wide shoulders and narrow backside, it was a slender figure. From head to toe, his body was shrouded in air as cold as a winter wind. Compared to the man who had buried his face in the back of her neck last night, gasping hot breaths, it was like two different people.

Hearing the movement behind him, Wei Shao turned and his eyes fell on Ye Zhen’s body. As always, his gaze was cold and calm, but immediately after seeing Ye Zhen’s clothes, he slightly wrinkled his brows.

Ye Zhen’s attire has always been restrained and conservative. As the secretary to the General Manager, she usually wore a white shirt paired with a knee-length skirt, black leather shoes that were neither high nor low, with her long hair tied back in a bun. Other than a watch, she never wore any gold or silver jewelry. Even in the winter, her attire never changed.

But today, she donned a white shirt paired with a black suit and trousers, wrapping her body up tightly.

He has never left a mark on her body.

“Mr. Wei.”

He nodded.

Ye Zhen asked, “Are you hungry? Would you like breakfast before leaving?”

She would ask this question almost every time, and he would politely say, “No need for the trouble.”

Ye Zhen hummed, and stepped forward to help the man straighten his tie.

She sent him to the door and leisurely watched him go.

When Ye Zhen arrived at the company, she heard Man Da at the front desk say, “The company is very lively today! The fact that Jiang Yuan was swept out by General Manager Wei was exposed yesterday! Although no names were mentioned, a few key words were revealed, and now the new Four Little Flowers have been all dragged out by netizens. Some people have figured out that it was Jiang Yuan! To become popular so quickly, it also incites hatred from people, doesn’t it.”

Ye Zhen hasn’t been able to watch the news since last night, so she really didn’t know.

Man Da asked, “Who would have spread it out?”

Those in the General Manager’s office added up to more than a dozen people, so it was hard to say who would have spread it. After all, they had all received professional training, and knowing what kind of man Wei Shao was, whistleblowing was tantamount to destroying one’s career. However, most people in the company knew that Jiang Yuan had come to find Wei Shao. Looking at Jiang Yun’s usual conduct and personality, there were quite a few people who could guess a thing or two.

Ye Zhen said, “I don’t know.”

Man Da shrugged, “Either way, there is no solid evidence. It will pass after some damage control, and it might even stir up some buzz for Jiang Yun. But Zhen Zhen, you look really good in this suit. Thin waist and long legs, such a tempting outfit, but it’s a pity that you don’t have a boyfriend. How about I introduce you to one?”

Ye Zhen smiled and said, “Don’t speak nonsense.”

She returned to her desk, turned on Weibo[3], and saw #JiangYanSeduction# in third place on the hot search list. She clicked and gave it a quick look. There were some who believed and some who didn’t believe. It was quite a lively discussion.

[3] Weibo [微博] = huge microblogging site in China that is similar to Twitter

Ye Zhen closed it after a few glances.

In the host’s memory, there wasn’t much about Jiang Yuan, but there was something related to how she became famous later on. With her superb acting skills and vision for choosing scripts, she gradually gained a foothold in the entertainment industry, and was lucky enough to snag the female lead role in ghost[4] director Tang Yuan’s new work  <Be Careful Behind You>. She then successfully won the Golden Phoenix Award for Best Actress, becoming a top-tier celebrity with a bright future.

[4] ghost [鬼] = basically describes a genius is that has such deep insight and strength that ordinary people could never surpass them

But this didn’t mean much to Ye Zhen. What was important was that Jiang Yuan’s future boyfriend would end up being Wei Xun, one of Wei Shao’s three illegitimate siblings.

When Jiang Yuan left yesterday, her resentment had been so strong that it could not be concealed from Ye Zhen’s eyes. None of Wei Shao’s three illegitimate siblings were simple, people so knowing that these two would wind up together, it was hard for Ye Zhen to not think about them.

In this way, it was inevitable that she would end up lost in her thoughts, and so much so that during lunch, when a colleague knocked over the vegetable soup and liquid splashed out, she wasn’t able to react quickly enough and her trousers got soaked.

Man Da hurriedly grabbed napkins for Ye Zhen, and cried in alarm, “Isn’t it hot? Hurry up and change your pants!”

Thankfully, the soup hadn’t just come out of the pot, otherwise she would really have jumped up. But even so, her colleagues were frightened to death, “I’m sorry, so sorry, I didn’t do it on purpose!”

Ye Zhen stood up and said, “It’s okay, don’t worry. The soup wasn’t hot.”

Man Da breathed a sigh of relief and said, “Go, check first for any burns and then change your pants.”

“En.”

So soupy and oily, it definitely needed to be changed.

She changed into a spare skirt. While changing, she didn’t think too much about it, but afterwards, Ye Zhen became a little embarrassed. Man Da was also paying too much attention, constantly sighing that Ye Zhen was lucky she hadn’t been scalded, and that her skin was only slightly red. Otherwise, with Wei Shao’s strict workplace requirements, Ye Zhen would have had to either go home or change jobs. Even if she came back after resting, it wouldn’t have guaranteed her a place in the General Manager’s office. Man Da didn’t like either option since she quite liked Ye Zhen, who worked honestly and quietly and didn’t gossip. Such a person was hard to come by.

Ye Zhen said, “Man Da, why don’t you go eat first, and while you’re there, help bring back a meal for me. I’ll go wash my trousers. Thank you.”

Man Da didn’t think too much, and left after humming in agreement.

Ye Zhen breathed a sigh of relief, set her trousers down, and headed towards the secretary’s office. She needed to get foundation first.

At this time, most people were still in the cafeteria, and Wei Shao had left with an assistant on a special assignment early that morning. There was still someone manning the front desk, but as long as she was careful, the person shouldn’t notice anything. Her footsteps quickened, but her demeanor was calm, not showing any signs of panic.

However, she did not expect that she would run into Wei Shao just as he was returning to the company.

Wei Shao and the assistant came back together. Ye Zhen, who was walking down the same aisle, naturally stopped first and bowed, “Mr. Wei.”

Wei Shao nodded. The unconcerned gaze that had just swept past suddenly stopped when he saw that Ye Zhen had changed into a skirt. He looked a bit more closely and saw ambiguous red marks that could not be ignored on the woman’s white and tender knees. For a man who has always been calm and self-possessed, it was rare to see him stunned in place.

Last night…
